IHI Triple Aim

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement  has created a Triple Aim as a way to optimize the healthcare system performance. The 3 dimensions are: improving the patient experience of care (including quality and satisfaction), improving the health of populations, and reducing the per capita cost of health care. To achieve this, IHI created a concept design to guide healthcare systems and the community. The major components are 1) to focus on individuals and families, 2) redesign or primary care services and structures, 3) population health management, 4) cost control platform, and 5) system integration and execution.
OT will play a major role in cost effectiveness by incorporating OT services prior to discharge, (including patient and home evaluations), and involvement in primary care services, (preventative aspect of treating).
